Trivia Answer: 29 days! January (or Ianuarius in Latin) was added to the Roman calendar by Numa Pompilius, the second king of Rome. It was originally placed at the end of the year, following December, until the Romans reset the course so that January and February were the first months of the year. January is thought to have taken its name from Janus, the god of beginnings, openings, passages, and doorways. In 45 BC, the calendar was reformed by Julius Caesar, and 2 days were added to January.
